HIGHLIGHTS | A goal fest between the Limerick and Tipperary Legends as the Shannonsiders prevail

The legends from both counties joined forces to raise money for a very worthy cause on Saturda afternoon.

Limerick and Tipperary reeled in the years on Saturday as legends from the counties played out an exhibition game for Crumlin Children’s hospital in Boher.

In the end, it was the hosts who prevailed by 6-22 to 7-17 in a high scoring encounter.

In an end to end contest, it was the legends from Tipperary who were on the goalscoring charts first with John Carroll firing to the roof of the net inside five minutes.

TJ Ryan steadied things for Limerick before a long range effort from his brother Donie went all the way to the net.

A pair of goals followed for Limerick, Murroe Boher native Seanie Tobin getting the second with a fine finish past Brendan Cummins.

Tipp hit back with a brace of goals before Tobin grabbed his second with Limerick leading 4-9 to 3-8 at the half.

Limerick’s 5th and 6th goals came within eighth minutes of the restart as they moved well clear of their opponents in Boher.

Their lead was 6-14 to 4-13 at the second water break, the reintroduction of the rule a welcome addition in the heatwave.

Cummins, who moved out the field, got himself a goal to reduce the deficit but Albert Shanahan was then on hand to deny Eoin Kelly from the penalty spot.

But Tipp did hit the net to move within two points with time running out. That margin was wiped out when Tipp pounced for their seventh with time in the red.

Limerick replied through the Tobin brothers Pat and Seanie to retake the lead and the win.

Watch the highlights from the game with all proceeds going to Crumlin Children’s hospital.
