HIGHLIGHTS | High flying Galway halt Treaty’s momentum

The Limerick side came into the game having won four games on the bounce, scoring twelve goals and only conceding once.

Treaty United’s good run of form was brought to a halt on Friday night, as table-topping Galway United ran out 3-0 winners at the Markets Field.

The Limerick side came into the game having won four games on the bounce, scoring twelve goals and only conceding once.

The Shannonsiders excellent recent defensive record would not hold tough on the night, as David Hurley, Francely Lomboto and Ibrahim Keita all found themselves on the scoresheet.

The result leaves Tommy Barrett’s men sixth in the league, a point off Athlone Town, and the coveted promotion play-off places.

Treaty’s in form striker Enda Curran, playing against his former side, failed to add to his tally for the season. The Galway native had shouts for a penalty waved away by the referee after he was bundled over in the area after just ten minutes.

Just eight minutes later a penalty was awarded. Andy Spain was judged to have handled the ball inside the area and Hurley sent Treaty keeper Shane Hallahan the wrong way to give Galway the lead.

Lomboto doubled Galway’s lead just before half-time, as he slotted past Hallahan from close range.

To add to Treaty’s misery, Spain was shown red after getting a second yellow card for taking down Galway’s Edward McCarthy on the edge of the area.

Frenchman Ibrahim Keita came off the bench to deliver the final blow to Barrett’s men, finding the back of the net from close range to make it 3-0 to his Galway side.

Treaty are in action at the Markets Field again on Friday night, as they welcome ninth place Finn Harps to Limerick.
