HIGHLIGHTS | Kilmallock snatch SHC Final spot with win over Doon

Kilmallock have earned their place in the Bons Secours County Senior Hurling Championship final with a 4 – 20 to 2 – 16 win over Doon at the TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.

It was nothing short of intense in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday as Kilmallock and Doon fought hard for the final spot up for grabs with the Balbec coming out on top in a reverse of last year’s result.

The game’s opening minutes saw both sides come level scoring three points each, but it would be Kilmallock who pulled away with five points either side of the water break.

Despite efforts of Doon’s Josh Ryan to bring his side within three points of the leaders, Kilmallock would keep the pressure on scoring another three points before the end of the half.

Kilmallock’s Kevin O’Donnell took full advantage of the opening minutes of the second half by striking the first goal of the game. It wasn’t long until his teammate Micheal Houlihan would gain Kilmallock’s second goal from a precise penalty attempt.

Three goals followed in the space of just three minutes, Doon’s goal came first through Patrick Cummins only to be responded to by Kilmallock’s Oisin O’Reilly. However, Josh Ryan was on hand moments later for Doon’s second.

Richie English’s score had it back to a six point difference as the game entered its final quarter. O’Reilly put the final nail in the coffin in the closing minutes, establishing a nine point lead over their opponents.
