HIGHLIGHTS | Limerick just come up short against Clare in search of Munster Football Final place

Clare now look forward to a Munster final against Kerry on Sunday week while Limerick will turn their attention to the Tailteann Cup.

After a below par league campaign that saw them relegated with a game to spare, Limerick and Clare served up a Munster Football Championship classic in the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Saturday evening.

In the end it was the Banner that booked their place in the Munster final with a 1-16 to 0-16 win over the hosts. They got off to a flyer with Keelan Sexton goaling in the third minute.

The Limerick response was positive and scores from Cathal Downes, Sean O’Dea and Cillian Fahy had Limerick within a point after a half hour.

Sexton again stretched out the gap prior to the half but Limerick did pull level with fifteen minutes to play. A minute later the Adare man gave Limerick their first lead of the evening.

A Sexton double came either side of a Fahy effort but it was UL student Emmett McMahon that came into his own down the stretch as a pair helped Clare over the line following a titanic effort.
