The Limerick minor footballers claimed a first piece of silverware since 1956 as they defeated Tipperary in the Munster Phase One Final in Mallow on Thursday evening.

John Ryan’s men needed a late Darragh Hogan to see off the Premier who roared back into the contest either side of the break.

Limerick kicked six successive scores in the opening half but were pegged back by Tipp in the build up to the interval as they led 0-6 to 0-4.

Tipp had the games first goal from Charlie Grace to regain the lead but Limerick battled back to level proceedings approaching the final ten.

The Premier briefly restored their advantage but Hogan’s goal was added to by a Rory Mullins point with Limerick holding on for a famous victory.

They will now to go on to play Kerry in the Munster semi-final next Thursday.
