Munster A took on Connacht Eagles last Friday in a challenge game to prepare both provinces for a return to PRO14 action next weekend.

Tries from prop Jeremy Loughman and academy winger Conor Phillips guided Munster to a 16-7 victory at the Sportsground in a game that saw both academy players and experienced senior pros tog out side by side. Limerick outhalf Conor Fitzgerald started at outhalf for Connacht and scored all seven of their points by converting his own try.

The only score of the first half came through a Jack Crowley penalty for Munster. However, the second half burst to life with Loughman rumbling over soon after the break to make it 8-0. Disappointingly for Munster, Connacht were left straight back into it when the home team attacked dangerously and Conor Fitzgerald danced his way over to make it a one point game.

Munster later replied with a Jake Flannery penalty before an all-important late try from Conor Phillips secured the 16-7 win for the men in red.
