Highlights | Munster’s season comes to a conclusion after Ulster defeat in URC quarter-finals

It brings to an end the Johann van Graan era in the province.

Munster’s season came to an end in disappointing fashion on Friday evening as Ulster claimed a 36-17 win in their URC quarter-final clash.

It brings to an end a lacklustre campaign with Munster falling at the same stage in Europe in April.

At the Kingspan Stadium, Ulster dominated the early exchanges as John Cooney crossed for the opening try of the game as the scrum-half added the extras to give Ulster a 7-0 lead.

But Munster responded through Jean Kleyn with Joey Carbery adding the extras to level.

Stewart Moore re established the lead for the hosts after being set free by Robert Balacoune as Cooney kicked the conversion.

Moore extended the lead with his second try after 32 minutes which was enough for a 19-7 advantage at the interval.

Nick Timoney had Ulster’s fourth try shortly after the restart as they moved 19 points clear.

Gavin Coombes looked like bringing Munster back into the game but his try after a blockdown was ruled out as the Skibbereen man was adjudged to have knocked the ball on.

Munster did get their second try through Keith Earls but Ulster hit back with a Cooney penalty.

Ulster followed this up with a try from James Hume that had them 36-12 in front as Earls went over for a consolation try.
