After an absence of 10 years, St Patrick’s ladies footballers are back in the winners circle following a win over Old Mill earlier this week.
The league crown has been attained in their first year back as a sole entity having soldiered in an amalgamation with Monaleen (Groody Gaels) in the interim.
The club has put in a huge effort in that time to put together an underage structure, as well as coaxing players that had moved away from the game, back to their grounds in Rhebogue. This work led to 28 players togging for Wednesday’s final.
Pats had a mixed run to the decider in the group stage with a loss to Dromin-Athlacca/Banogue, a draw with Ballybrown and victory over Old Mill.
They met Dromin-Athlacca/Banogue in the semi-final and after a titanic contest, St Patrick’s came out with the win.
That set up another meeting with Old Mill. Only a point separated the teams at half time, but a sensational second half saw Pats home to the Division 5 league title.
