Historic night of rugby in store as Garryowen return to Markets Field this Friday

Garryowen FC take on north Tipperary side Nenagh Ormond in the Sporting Limerick Charity Cup final this Friday night at the Markets Field.

The match will have a few “firsts” attaching to it. Garryowen FC from their foundation until their relocation to Dooradoyle in the late 1950s, had long connections to the ground.

While Nenagh Ormond will make their first appearance in the Charity Cup decider.

Garryowen come into the game following a confidence boosting derby win over rivals Young Munster in their division 1A clash last week in Dooradoyle.

It was a second victory over the cookies this season for Conan Doyle’s side, as the light blues ran out 45-10 winners when the sides met in the quarter final stages of the Charity Cup at the end of August.

Nenagh Ormond currently lie in fourth spot in divsion 2A, saw off Limerick side UL Bohemian to reach this Friday’s decider, while Garryowen defeated Old Crescent to progress.

All proceeds on the night will benefit local charities, including St. Vincents Lisnagry, Parkinson’s Association, Redemptorist Fathers Christmas Poor Campaign, Limerick Marine Search and Rescue and Milford Hospice. The night promises to be a great sporting occasion while also supporting Local Charities.
