“I can’t wait for the day I put on a red jersey in front of a full house” | Simon Zebo gives his first interview since returning to Munster

The province’s leading try scorer returned to his boyhood club after a three year stint with French Top14 club Racing 92.

Zebo is set to make his first appearance for Munster this Saturday since returning to the province in mid July. In the interview, Zebo touched on the young talent present within the squad, reflected on his time with Racing and his excitement for the upcoming season.

“Some unbelievable young athletes and some really skilful guys, you’ve Jake Flannery, Jack Crowley, Daniel Okeke, these guys are pushing it on really far”

When Zebo signed for Racing 92 in 2018, he was joining an elite group of rugby players at one of the games most predominant clubs. Zebo played in the 2020 Heineken Champions Cup Final against Exeter where Racing fell just four points short of their English opponents.

Also during his time in Paris Zebo got the opportunity to learn and compete with world class teammates, such as veteran Wallabies full-back Kurtley Beale, Scotland Maestro Finn Russell, French speedster Teddy Thomas and of course Munster and Ireland legend Donnacha Ryan.

“We’s some seriously talented players over at Racing, they brought a new mindset, different ways of thinking, It was a lot of fun to play with them… They were a great group of guys and I’ve made some friends for life so I’ll take that experience with me for a very long time.”

Zebo is ready to bring the experience he earned with Racing 92 to this promising Munster squad. As Zebo returns to Thomond Park this Saturday in the Munster v Munster Challenge match, he’ll have the opportunity to shake off the cobwebs in his first Munster appearance in over three years.

“running around with your friends again is what it’s all about and I’m very very excited to do that. We’re building really nicely into the season and to be able to play back here with the fans again is going to be special.”
