“If you manage to make top four, you deserve to be there” | Knockainey manager Gerard O’Shea on competition in the Premier IHC

O’Shea’s side notched one point in their group in the 2021 Premier IHC.

Knockainey will be looking to get off on the right foot this weekend as they begin their Premier IHC campaign against Dromin-Athlacca on Saturday.

A draw against now relegated Murroe-Boher was the best result for Knockainey in last year’s championship as they failed to progress from their group.

With the group stages reverting back to eight-team groups compared to last season’s four, there’s more chance of winning games and manager Gerard O’Shea believes a top four place will be well-earned for any side.

“You have plenty of games so if you manage to make it into the top four, you deserve to be there at the end of the day and every team will think that they can push for a top four place and we’ll be the same.”

“I think it’s important to get off to a good start, once you can get a bit of confidence into the team, it makes a big difference going forward.”

And O’Shea is hoping his side can achieve exactly that as he sets his sights on a semi-final.

The Knockainey manager believes a mix of youth and senior, more experienced players will help to get his side into those top-four places.

“We have a good group of U19s coming through so we’re trying to give them the experience with the older lads so hopefully this year we can push on again and maybe make semi-final, we have to wait and see.”
