Ireland International Jack Byrne signs for Apoel Nicosia

Former Shamrock Rovers midfielder Jack Byrne has been announced as a new signing for Cypriot outfit APOEL Nicosia on the club’s official Twitter page. Byrne has signed a 2 year contract and will be re-united with former Ireland manager Mick McCarthy who took the reigns at the club last month.

McCarthy selected Byrne for three Irish squads during his tenure and had been linked with a move for him since his arrival in Cyprus. Last week, Byrne announced that he would be leaving Shamrock Rovers with a “heavy heart” on Sunday evening.

The 24- year old is the current PFAI Player of the Season and has won the accolade two years in a row while also picking up the Airtricity League Premier Division title last season. Byrne arrived at Shamrock Rovers in 2018 and also picked up an FAI Cup winners medal in 2019.
