Ireland unravel an uninspired Argentina in their final game of the Autumn Nations series

Ireland outscored a stale Argentina at the Aviva Stadium this evening, with Ireland’s 53 points dwarfing the Pumas’ 7 points.

Andy Farrell’s Ireland side showcased yet another comprehensive win over visitors Argentina, in their final Autumn Nations fixture.

Ireland were spooked in the games opening minutes as Argentina’s Mateo Carreras galloped over the Irish try line to score the first try of the game.

Two bad misses off the tee from Argentina’s Santiago Carreras would disrupt the south American’s momentum significantly. Argentina’s momentum was completely eroded when try scorer Mateo Carreras fumbled a pass within mere yards of an undefended Irish try line.

There were immense performances from a number of Ireland’s key players, with Munster’s Tadhg Beirne getting over the Pumas line.

There was also a big shift put in by the Leinster representatives on the team, as Josh van der Flier (2), Andrew Porter, Caelan Doris, Dan Sheehan and Cian Healy all crossed the whitewash to score for Ireland.

Munster’s Joey Carbery showcased his skills throughout the 80 minutes, starting at out half and moving to full-back upon the introduction of Leinster’s Harry Byrne. Carbery retained kicking responsibilities throughout.

Carbery kicked an astonishing six conversions and two penalties for the men in green, only missing one shot at goal when he hit the post on his final conversion attempt.

There was also plenty drama throughout when Argentina’s number eight Pablo Matera served 10 minutes in the sin-bin due to a deliberate knock on.

The Pumas’ discipline didn’t improve however, when Argentine second-row Tomas Lavanini saw red due to a careless clear out attempt on Ireland’s Cian Healy.

This is now Ireland’s most comprehensive win over Argentina throughout all 18 test matches played between the two nations, with Ireland’s second most impressive performance coming in 2012 when Ireland defeated the Pumas 46-24 at the Aviva Stadium.
