Forwards coach Andi Kyriacou and lock Jean Kleyn spoke to the media this week ahead of Munster’s meeting with Leinster.
Munster notched their second win of the 2022/23 URC campaign with a 31-17 victory over Vodacom Bulls last Saturday on their long-awaited return to Thomond Park.
Two tries from Gavin Coombes alongside one each from Jeremy Loughman and Tadhg Beirne gave Graham Rowntree’s men a much-needed win where they side also claimed a bonus point.
The victory comes after a tough week for the province with injuries piling up and criticism from fans after what’s been a sluggish start to the season for the side.
However, Munster forwards coach Andi Kyriacou believes Saturday’s win was only the start for Munster as he expects more to come from the side following their performances in training.
“In terms of the Bulls performance, it was really encouraging to see the good work that we’re doing in training is starting to transfer and materialise into match performances.”
“The exciting thing, I believe from reviewing the game is that there is a lot more chances out there for us to take, but you know we had to handle a pretty big pack, big team there and I felt we did that at the weekend and it’s a positive performance but there’s still more to come.”
Part of the starting XV against Bulls was Jean Kleyn who spoke to the media alongside Kyriacou.
The 29-year-old reflected on the side’s victory but was quick to look ahead to their weekend clash with Leinster.
Kleyn believes that it’s important the side focus on their own game before looking ahead to their illustrious opponents.
“I think we’re very focused on our own game at the moment, because we are still building, so I think we’re very conscious of just working on what we did well, improving on that and identifying what we did poorly and improving on that as well,”
“I think the mindset is very much positive, we’re in a good space at the moment, we’ve been saying it every week. I know Graham said it to us and he said to the media that so many good things are happening and they’re going to pay off and I think we’re getting to the point where they’re starting to pay off.”
Munster take on Leinster this Saturday at 5:15pm at the Aviva Stadium in the United Rugby Championship.
