John Kiely expects backroom appointments to be made “in the next few weeks”

John Kiely looked ahead to the 2022 campaign prior to Sunday’s Limerick SHC Final between Patrickswell and Kilmallock.

After retaining the All-Ireland title for the first time in history, Limerick GAA last month announecd that John Kiely was to extend his time at the helm for a further two years.

With three All-Ireland and Munster titles in five years in charge, Kiely said his reappointment was a testement to the squad at his disposal as he spoke with TG4.

“We’ve spoke with our feet really. We have committed to the job for another few years. We have a brilliant relationship with this current set of players. They’re an extraordinary bunch and they work hard. Last year I would have considered this team to be further maturing in their performances and we saw that. They were getting continuously better as the season went on.

“They’re a young side really overall, there’s lots left in the tank for these guys to go after and its up to themselves really to bring the appetite to the table.

“We’ve a good group of people around them to help them to be the best they can be but ultimately if they keep giving themselves opportunities, they’ll take some of them. Maybe not all but definitely some of them.”

Kiely will have to make a few changes in the off season with Caroline Currid now working with Munster Rugby and Mike Kiely moving on to pastures new with Ulster.

And with the new year less than three months away, Kiely expects appointments to be made in the “next few weeks.”

“It’s early doors in the off season for us and every camp. You see Henry there, he has to go build a whole backroom team. Listen we have a few positions to look at and that will all take place in the next few weeks.

And when asked about the return of Currid, Kiley was coy in his answer saying, “that’s all in the mix.”
