John Kiely to hand pair debut as Gearoid Hegarty returns to captain heavily rotated Limerick side for Cork clash

Hegarty replaces Dan Morrissey as captain, and joins David Reidy as the only starters from July’s All-Ireland final win in this XV.

John Kiely has named a much changed side for Wednesday evening’s re-fixture with Cork in the Co-Op Superstores Munster Senior Hurling League.

The game is set to be played in Mick Neville Park at 7pm, with the original tie being postponed due to heavy fog in Mallow on January 7th.

Avoid defeat and Kiely’s men will reach the final of the competition, while Cork know they need a victory to set up a decider against Waterford this coming Sunday.

Monaleen man Ronan Lyons and Doon’s Donal Coughlan are in line to make their debut, with the pair named at corner-back and corner-forward respectively.

Gearoid Hegarty replaces Dan Morrissey as captain, and joins David Reidy as the only starters from July’s All-Ireland final win in this XV.

Peter Casey is the only other starter from that win over Kilkenny involved in the squad, with the forward coming in as an option off the bench.

David McCarthy continues in goal, while debutant Lyons is selected at corner-back, lining out alongside Emmet McEvoy and Aaron Costelloe in the full-back line.

Adare’s Ronan Connolly is once again named at centre-back, with Ciaran Barry at wing-back, and Ethan Hurley of Newcastle West coming in on the other flank.

Micheal Houlihan is moved back to midfield, where he partners Barry Murphy, who remains in from the start for this clash.

It means the path is clear for Hegarty to return in the number ten jersey, as he captains the side alongside Reidy and Conor Boylan in the half-forward line.

Coughlan is in line for his debut at corner-forward, joining Luke Flynn and Oisin O’Reilly as the inside forwards.
