Just one team assured of their semi-final place | PIHC final round permutations

A look at the lay of the land in the Limerick PIHC ahead of an exciting final round of action this Sunday afternoon.

We are down to the final round in the Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship with just one team assured of their place in the knockout stages.

Effin booked their last four berth last time out but four more sides remain in the hunt with just three spots to be filled.

Round Seven Fixtures

  • Na Piarsaigh v Dromin Athlacca on Sunday, October 1st at 2pm in Fedamore
  • Glenroe v Blackrock on Sunday, October 1st at 2pm in Kilmallock
  • Cappamore v Effin on Sunday, October 1st at 2pm in Bruff
  • Bruff v Newcastle West on Sunday, October 1st at 2pm in Ballyagran

Ahead of that final round, we run through what each team needs.

The South side are into the last four with a game to spare. Face a Cappamore side who appear to be relegated already. A draw will be enough for Effin to top the group and face the fourth side in the semis.

Another win and Dromin Athlacca will be into the semi-finals. If Newcastle West beat Bruff, then they will go through with defeat in the final round. If Bruff beat Newcastle then they could miss out on H2H and scoring.

A draw in their game and in the clash of Bruff and NCW would mean it goes to scoring difference.

After losing their first two games, the Magpies know a fifth win on the trot will see them into the semi-finals for the third year running. If they lose, they need Dromin Athlacca to fall and Blackrock to win to advance.

A draw would be enough if Dromin Athlacca/Blackrock lose.

The early favourites are in danger of missing out after two losses in their last three games. If they beat Newcastle then they are guaranteed to advance. Should they lose, they would have to hope that Blackrock lose and Dromin Athlacca win.

A draw would be enough if Dromin Athlacca/Blackrock lose.

A win would be enough for Blackrock to move into the last four regardless of results elsewhere. If they lose, then they would need Bruff to beat Newcastle West and Dromin Athlacca to also win.

A draw in their game and in the clash of Bruff and NCW would mean it goes to scoring difference.

Eliminated in their first year at the PIHC but safe from the drop.

Glenroe (2 pts)

Their win over Cappamore looks to have sealed safety as they will hold the head to head if they finish level on points.

Without a win and it seems their time in the Premier Intermediate ranks has ended but no confirmation as of yet.
