Kiely named Munster GAA Manager of the Year

Limerick senior hurling manager John Kiely has been named as Munster GAA Manager of the Year for the second time.

The Galbally native has been given the award by the MunsterCouncil after guiding Limerick’s hurlers to their first All-Ireland crown in 45 years.

Kiely previously won the gong in 2015 when manager of the county’s U-21 side that won Munster and All-Ireland titles.

Limerick also won Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling Leaguein 2018 under Kiely’s stewardship and will play in the League’s top tier for the first time since 2010.

Joe McKenna was also inducted into the Munster GAA Hall of Fame at the same ceremony. McKenna was a member of the Limerick side that won the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 1973 and won six All-Stars during a superb career.

McKenna also managed the senior hurlers in 2005 and 2006,before playing a key part in Limerick’s Underage Hurling Academy that had helped the county to this year’s All-Ireland.
