Late rally sees Louth inflict League defeat on Limerick

Limerick suffered their first loss of the League season today.

Louth snatched victory in the North Campus of UL as they beat Limerick 1-14 to 1-12 in the third round of the National League.

Louth kicked seven successive scores down the stretch, including a pair in injury time to seal the victory and inflict a first defeat of the League on Limerick.

The game was moved less than two hours before the original throw in time with the Gaelic Grounds not playable.

Instead the teams headed for UL where Louth got off to the perfect start, hitting the net inside two minutes.

James Naughton got Limerick off the mark with Josh Ryan adding a couple of placed balls as Louth also tacked on a couple of points.

An Iain Corbett had Limerick within one after 20 minutes but Lee’s side didn’t hit the front until the last kick of the first half as Ryan nailed a 45’.

Louth had the first two scores of the half to retake the lead but it was Limerick’s once again on 43 minutes with Hugh Bourke hitting the net.

Ryan claimed a Donal O’Sullivan kick out before feeding Bourke who cooly slotted into the net.

Naughton and Ryan had Limerick five clear heading into the final ten minutes before the Louth onslaught arrived.

Limerick now play Wicklow next Saturday in Aughrim.
