Limerick based boxer Paddy Donovan joins Pro Ranks

Limerick based boxer Paddy Donovan has turned Professional.

The 20-year-old Ennis man (who trains out of Our Lady of Lourdes Boxing Club) has signed a deal with American Promoter Top Rank, who feature a number of stellar pros and prospects on their books including Tyson Fury, Carl Frampton and Michael Conlon.

It’s understood that former WBO Middleweight Champion Andy Lee will train Donovan, while also acting as his manager as he makes his way through the world of Professional Boxing.

Speaking to Off The Ball on Friday, Lee said:

“I expect (Paddy) to become World Champion and nothing less and that’s his goal now, and to be winning by knock out.”

Donovan was one of Ireland’s top Amateur fighters, a 13-time National Champion and a World Junior Silver Medalist. Potentially a future Olympian, a controversial decision at this year’s national finals in February against Kieran Molloy may have swayed him to join the Pro Ranks instead.
