Limerick Celtics had an impressive 101 to 91 win over Portlaoise Panthers last Saturday night in Portlaoise.
Portlaoise was coming off a good win against the Limerick Sport Eagles the previous week and started the game very strong to take an early six-point lead. The Celtics later settled into the game with some good scores from Kevin Oberweiser, Jordan Hehir and Carlos Hortelano.
It was basket for basket for the next three quarters with the game played a really fast and exciting pace. The Celtics began to move the ball better over the course of the game and opened up a five-point lead midway through the fourth quarter with Conail Broderick hitting some super three-point shots. Five players ended up in double figures with Kevin Oberweiser on 28 points and Carlos Hortelano on 26 points. Jordan Hehir, Deividas Venchunas and Conail Broderick all finished on 14 points each.
A super team defensive performance with Egidijus Baksys and James Murphy putting huge pressure on their midland opponents.
The Limerick Celtics Men’s National team play their next game at home on Sunday, November 10th in St Munchins College, with tip-off at 5pm.
Meanwhile, there was also success for the clubs underage teams over the weekend. The Celtics Under 18 boys have qualified for the National Under 18 Cup Quarterfinals after wins over Limerick Lions, Portlaoise Panthers and Templeogue, while the Celtics Under 18 girls side have qualified for the National Shield Quarterfinals after wins over St Pauls Killarney and Belfast Pheonix.
