Limerick confirm no decision has been made on management team for 2022

Limerick will enter the 2022 season looking to become only the fourth ever county to complete a three-in-a-row.

Less than a fortnight after reclaiming their All-Ireland title, attention will turn to Limerick’s management and backroom teams as their current term comes to an end.

The All-Ireland champions will definitely have to do reshuffling among their extensive backroom staff with the news that Mikey Kiely will be leaving.

The Ballybrown native is to join the Ulster Rugby team in a full time role after winning two All-Ireland titles since entering the Limerick set up in late 2019.

There has been much speculation surrounding Caroline Currid who has been an integral part of Limerick’s three Liam MacCarthy success since 2018.

However, Limerick GAA have today clarified that, “no appointments have been made to the Management or Backroom team of the Limerick Senior hurlers for the 2022 season.”

Furthermore, John Kiely and Paul Kinnerk are at the end of their two year term which has heralded unprecedented success.

The full statement from the county board reads:

Limerick County Board wish to refute an article on Independent.ie dated Tuesday 31st of August by Michael Verney stating that Sports Psychologist and Performance Coach Caroline Currid is to continue in her role with the Limerick Senior Hurlers for the 2022 season.

Limerick County Board are happy to clarify that no appointments have been made to the Management or Backroom team of the Limerick Senior hurlers for the 2022 season.

The current management and backroom team were put in place in September 2019 for a two year period. This term has now elapsed, and every effort will be made in the weeks ahead after a period of reflection to put the best possible team in place for the next term.

The outcome of this process will be made public by official sources at the appropriate time. Until then no further comment will be made by Limerick GAA.
