Limerick continue preparations for new season with Waterford defeat

Limerick FC continued their preparation for the new SSE Airtricity League First Division campaign with a friendly game against Waterford FC at Waterford Regional Sports Centre. Waterford emerged as comfortable victors with a 4-0 win.

Former Limerick FC captain Shane Duggan opened the scoring for Alan Reynolds team before another former Super Blue Bastien Hery extended the lead before half time. It remained 2-0 until the final quarter before Dean O’Halloran and Dean Walsh extended the home side’s lead.

Limerick FC were captained by Shaun Kelly who started the game at right back. With Kelly being one of the most experienced players in an exceptionally young squad, it is likely that manager Tommy Barret may appoint the Killybegs native on a full time basis. Killian Brouder and Robbie Williams continued their partnership in defence while Sean Russell was fielded at left back.

Recent recruits Sean McSweeney and Jason Hughes started in midfield with recent Irish under-21 call ups Will Fitzgerald and Karl O’Sullivan starting on the wing. Colm Walsh-O’Loughlen and Conor Ellis were also in the starting 11.

Limerick continue their pre-season campaign with a friendly against Cobh Ramblers with a venue and time to be confirmed. Also, the Shannonsiders beat college outfit Univeristy of Limerick 7-1 last weekend.

Limerick open their campaign on February 22nd with a home game against Longford Town. It is expected that the club will confirm that they will be playing at the Markets Field this season. However, Airtricity League clubs have yet to be awarded licences for the new season.

Limerick FC: Jack Brady, Shaun Kelly, Killian Brouder, Robbie Williams, Sean Russell, Jason Hughes, Colm Walsh-O’Loughlen, Sean McSweeney, Karl O’Sullivan, Will Fitzgerald, Conor Ellis.
