Limerick County and District Schoolboy Leagues had a successful day at the SFAI Kennedy Cup this morning as both reached the Kennedy Trophy and Bowl finals respectively. It was a disappointing day for the Limerick Desmond League who lost out to their County counterparts in the Trophy semi-final.
Limerick District League overcame Midlands Schoolboy League 2-1 on Friday afternoon thanks to a brace from Stephen Young of Aisling Annacotty. Young scored directly from a free-kick in the early stages of the first half.
Limerick continued to look the more likely to extend their lead and did so when a cross from the left was collected by Young at the back post and his superb curling effort found the opposite corner of the net.
The Midlands pulled a goal back from close range following a mix up in the Limerick defence but despite their opponents hitting the crossbar late on, Noel O’Connor’s Limerick side reached the final of the Bowl where they will take on Cork on Saturday morning on pitch 2 (11.30). The outcome of the game will decide who finishes 9th and 10th in the Kennedy Cup rankings.
Limerick County defeated Limerick Desmond 1-0 in a tight contest on Friday morning to reach the Kennedy Trophy final where they will face West Waterford East Cork on Saturday morning on pitch 4 (10.30).
