Limerick District League Premier Division Round-up

It was a momentous occasion at the Fairgreen on Saturday night as Fairview Rangers hosted their first match under the newly installed floodlights against Prospect Priory. Jason Purcell’s men were 2-0 winners with a goal from Sean McSweeney and an own goal securing the win and continuing Fairview’s good start to the season.

Geraldines provided the biggest shock of the season so far when they defeated Aisling Annacotty 1-0 at Garryowen Green on Sunday morning. Evan O’Neill was the hero for ‘Dines who now move out of the bottom two for the first time this season. It was made all the more remarkable by manager Derek Hannon having to select B players in the form of goalkeeper Pa Reardon and Mike Crowley to field a side and both had solid outings.

Midfielder Christy O’Neill was also forced to play at centre-back and put in a man of the match display to ensure a shut out against a usually free-scoring Annacotty side. Shane Clarke also missed a penalty for Shane O’Hanlon’s side.

Ballynanty took full advantage of Annacotty’s slip as they comprehensively defeated Janesboro 4-0 at LIT. A hattrick from Arron Nunan and an own goal gave Dave Dunphy’s side the win to copper fasten their grip on top of the table.

Pike jumped to second place with a hard fought 1-2 win over Kilmallock. A first half goal from Conor Layng and a Steven McGann goal moved the Hoops to second place. The scheduled game between Mungret Regional and Coonagh was postponed.
