Limerick District League Premier Division round-up

There were plenty of goals in the Limerick District League Premier Division on Sunday morning but no shocks of note as Pike Rovers extended their lead at the top of the table to three points.

Pike defeated league challengers Ballynanty 4-3 at Limerick Institute of Technology. The scoring began when Johnathan Grant gave the Hoops the lead but they were pegged back when Kevin Nolan equalised for the home side.

Robbie Williams side regained the lead through recent signing Keith Mawdsley, a regular scorer for many years at this level. One of Williams former teammates at Limerick FC, Conor Ellis, brought Donal Magee’s side back on level terms through the penalty spot before Mawdsley scored his second for Pike to make it 3-2.

However, Ellis was not to be outdone by his opposite number as the home side were awarded another penalty which the lively striker scored. Pike showed plenty of character to search for the winner and were rewarded when Conor Kavanagh got the winner, much to the delight of the Crosagalla outfit who are unbeaten in the league since May 2018 after going unbeaten last season also.

Fairview Rangers earned a big 4-2 win over Regional United at Dooradoyle. Eddie Byrnes, James Fitzgerald and Jason Lipper were among the scorers for the Fairgreen outfit. Jamie Greaves and Paul Sheehan were the scorers for Regional who drop to fifth following the defeat.

Geraldines continued their strong start to the campaign with a 2-1 victory over Kilmallock. Geraldines and Fairvew are now joint second in the league. Karl Turner opened the scoring for Derek Hannon’s men but Kilmallock equalised soon after. Former Janesboro man Danny O’Neill put Geraldines in front from the penalty spot with 10 minutes remaining and they held out for their fifth win of the season.

Coonagh showed more fighting spirit at Pearse Stadium when they battled back from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw with Janesboro. Shane O’Hanlon’s side raced into a 2-0 lead through goals from Arron Nunan and Tyrique Leamy but Gordon McKevitt finished from an Eddie Radcliffe corner and Ger Myles continued his fine goal scoring form when he converted a Billy Connors cross to earn the draw.

Aisling Annacotty are now unbeaten in five games following a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Prospect. Eoghan Burke gave Mike Aherne’s side a 1-0 lead at half time and shortly after the restart, Shane Clarke doubled the lead. Three late goals from Paul Storan, Tommy Canty and Kennedy N’dip secured the win and continued Annacotty’s upward trajectory.

Mungret Regional earned their third victory of the season with a comfortable 5-0 win over struggling Nenagh . The gap between the two sides is now three points. Evan O’Grady (x2), Cian McNicholas (x2) and a solitary goal from Yakuba Yabre completed the rout for Eddie Storan’s men.
