Limerick duo nominated for RTE Sport Awards

Senior hurling manager John Kiely and Oisin O’Callaghan are the latest Limerick men to be nominated for RTE Sport Awards.

Kiely is shortlisted for Manager of the Year while O’Callaghan is up for Young Sportsmen of the Year.

Kiely is nominated after guiding Limerick to the perfect season as he picked up a second All-Ireland medal as manager.

Treaty manager Kiely saw his impressive Limerick team go through the year unbeaten. They were the standout hurlers in 2020, winning back-to-back league and Munster titles, as well as regaining the Liam McCarthy Cup they last won in 2018.

He is up against Dessie Farrell, Joseph O’Brien, Brian Dowling, Mick Bohan and Stephen Bradley.

Oisin O’Callaghan is chosen after he claimed a first ever downhill gold for Ireland at the Junior World Mountain Bike Championships in Austria. He would add to that triumph with his second a week later in October.

The Limerick teenager claimed a first ever downhill gold for Ireland at the Junior World Mountain Bike Championships in Austria. It was O’Callaghan’s first ever race at that level. The 17-year-old followed up his win in Austria with two stage wins at the recently held World Cup competition in Portugal.

It brings Limerick’s total of nominations to four with the senior hurlers and Geaoid Hegarty also nominated for awards.
