Limerick duo to officiate Presidents Cup Final

Limerick natives Robert Hennessy and Dermot Broughton will form part of the officiating team at the Presidents Cup Final between Dundalk and Cork City this weekend. The game is the annual curtain raiser for the Airtricity League season and will take place at Turners Cross on Saturday with a 5.30 kick off.

The SSE Airtricity League Twitter page congratulated Hennessy on his appointment as the referee while Dermot Broughton will be one of the linesmen.

“Congratulations to Robert Hennessy who has been appointed the referee for the President’s Cup Final this weekend. He will be assisted by Dermot Broughton & Trevor Cotter with Ray Matthews as the fourth official.”

Both men have been involved in top level refereeing in Ireland for the past number of years. Hennessy started by refereeing schoolboy football in Limerick from a very young age while Dermot Broughton still officiates Limerick District League junior soccer matches in both the city and county. Current Limerick junior soccer referee Ralph Pieper can also be regularly seen as linesman in the Airtricity League.
