Limerick FC have completed the signing of midfielder Cian Coleman from Cobh Ramblers for the 2018 season. Manager Neil McDonald has already begun shaping his squad just over a week after the last match of the 2017 campaign against Shamrock Rovers.
Coleman spent last season at Cobh Ramblers under the guidance of Stephen Henderson having previously played with Cork City under 19s since 2013. Coleman made two senior appearances for Cork in 2016. He was one of the star performers for Cobh as they finished as runners-up to the impressive Waterford United.
The young midfielder played a starring role for Cork under-19s as they progressed to play Italian giants Roma in the UEFA Youth cup last season. Coleman was a teammate of current Limerick winger Chiedozie Ogbene on that Cork side.
Limerick manager Neil McDonald spoke briefly about his excitement at working with the player during the coming season.
“We are pleased to have signed Cian and we welcome him to Limerick,” McDonald said. “I watched Cian in a couple of games in the past season, and in the Cup game against us, and I was impressed with some of the attributes he displayed in those performances. He has good pedigree. He went from Cork City to Cobh Ramblers to get more first-team football; he had a good season there, they finished second in the league and he played in nearly all of their games.”
Coleman becomes the 9th player to be contracted to the Shannonsiders for 2018 along with Brendan Clarke, Freddy Hall, Tony Whitehead, Barry Cotter, Chiedozie Ogbene, Henry Cameron, William Fitzgerald and Killian Brouder. The club will be adding more players to the squad in the coming months before February’s kick-off.
