Limerick footballers claim first win of Division 4 campaign

The Limerick footballers secured a well deserved win over Waterford Division 4 of the Allianz Football League in Martinstown on Saturday.

Limerick had worked their way into a healthy lead early as Jamie Lee hit the net to make it 1.01 to 0.01 just after the five minute mark.

A Waterford penalty had the away side back in the game going into the half as Limerick’s lead was cut to 2 points on a 1-6 to 1-4 scoreline.

The Deise men scored their second goal with fifteen minutes remaining on the clock to take the lead 2.07 to 1.09 and added two further points to lead by a goal 2.09 to 1.09 with ten minutes remaining.

Limerick didn’t give up the fight and were rewarded when Seamus O’Carroll scored a late goal followed by a pointed free by Sean McSweeney ensured a first win of the campaign for the Treaty County on a 2-10 to 2-9 scoreline.

Billy Lee’s side now move up to 5th in the table.
