Limerick Heavyweights to face off in FAI Junior Cup

There will be plenty of excitement on Sunday February 2nd among the Limerick junior soccer fraternity when Limerick District League duo Fairview Rangers and Pike Rovers meet in the FAI Junior Cup 7th round. The game will take place at Crossagalla, the home of Pike Rovers.

The draw was made today in Dublin following last weekend’s action and despite bringing two bitter rivals together, there is an air of disappointment in Limerick as both clubs are the only two remaining from the city.

Both sides have been performing extremely well both locally and nationally and many predicted a lengthy run for both clubs with even the possibility of an all-Limerick final. However, with news of today’s draw, that dream will have to wait another day.

It will be a very difficult game to call with both clubs flying in the league and still in all cup competitions they have entered this season. Just two points separate the sides with Fairview in pole position and Pike in third place with a game in hand.

A big rivalry will be renewed as both clubs have been two of the most successful in the last two decades although Fairview have won significantly more FAI Junior Cups in their history. Fairview won the 2010 final in Turners Cross while just a year later, Pike were victorious at the same venue against the same opposition in St. Michaels.

The full draw for the last 16 of the FAI Junior Cup can be viewed below thanks to Justin Burke Sports.
