Limerick hurlers travel to face McDonagh Cup champions Carlow

John Kiely’s side will visit Netwatch Dr Cullen Park next weekend for a first ever championship meeting with Carlow with fixture details to be announced on Monday afternoon.

Colm Bonner’s men set up the meeting with Limerick following victory over Westmeath in the Joe McDonagh Cup final, recording a 2-26 to 1-24 win in Croke Park.

The winners of the preliminary All Ireland quarter final between the sides will face the runners up of the Leinster final between Galway and Kilkenny who face off for the second week in a row next weekend following Sunday’s stalemate at Croke Park.

Limerick will have to do without the presence of experienced midfielder Paul Brown for the contest with Carlow. The management team confirmed on Saturday evening that Brown will undergo surgery in the coming weeks for a season ending Cruciate Ligament injury.

The injury may lead to game time for Pallasgreen club man Colin Ryan.

Ryan scored 0-3 during regular time after coming on for Browne in the league quarter final win over Clare and also sent over two ’65’s in the sudden death free taking competition that sealed Limerick’s semi final spot.
