Limerick Intermediate and Junior Football Championships First Round Recap

Outside of the top tier, there was action in the Intermediate and Junior Championships with 26 teams kicking off their seasons.

There was plenty of action in the first round of the Limerick Football Championships that kicked off last week with the clash of Gerald Griffins and Pallasgreen in the Intermediate Football Championship.]

In total there were 19 games in the top four tiers, with the first round of the senior football championship recapped here.

Below we look at the other 13 games starting with the intermediate championship where last year’s finalists were beaten.

Intermediate

In Group One Mungret St Pauls started their campaign in style with a comfortable win over last year’s runners up Drom Broadford. Elsewhere, recent finalists Rathkeale (2021) and Gerald Griffins (2019 & ’20) picked up facile victories to begin their championship journeys.

In Group Two, there was just one game with the other pair postponed due to players still involved with the Limerick Senior hurlers. In that game, Galbally laid out their intentions following relegation last year with a six point win over St Senans.

Round One Results

Group 1

  • Gerald Griffins 2-8 : 0-4 Pallasgreen
  • Rathkeale 3-25 : 0-4 Glin
  • Drom Broadford 0-8 : 1-13 Mungret St Paul’s

Group 2

  • St Senan’s 1-15 : 4-12 Galbally

Premier Junior

In the Premier Junior championship, there was a full set of fixtures played across the two groups. In group one, Mountcollins saw off Monagea by four points in the glamour tie of the round. Kilteely Dromkeen saw off Ballybrown with ease while Croom overcame relegated Bruff in their maiden game at the grade.

In group two, Granagh Ballingarry, last year’s Junior champions, got off to a flyer with a win over Athea while Feenagh Kilmeedy also were victorious over Cappamore. Newcastle West and Cappagh played out a draw in an all-West affair.

  • Newcastle West 2-8 : 1-11 Cappagh

Junior A

There were just four games in the Junior A championship with both groups having a pair of games played. In group one, Banogue flexed their muscle with a heavy win over Na Piarsaigh while Ballybricken Bohermore were impressive in a win against Ahane.

Mungret St Pauls edged their contest with Monaleen in group two while Castletown Ballyagran‘s goals against Adare were the difference.
