The Limerick Junior soccer community were in mourning this week following the death of one of it’s greatest servants Pat Cotter. Cotter passed away on Friday following a short illness.
Cotter was an extremely popular man which was evident from the tributes paid from his colleagues as well as the general Limerick community. His club Mungret Regional gave a short announcement on the club’s official Facebook page.
Cotter was Mungret Regional club treasurer and was instrumental in the opening of the club’s new dressing rooms and astroturf facility in the last decade, not to mention being a founding member of Mungret FC in 1971.
His Limerick District Members Committee colleague Turlough McNamara led the tributes with,
“Limerick Junior soccer today lost one of Limericks trully wonderful gentleman with the sad passing of Pat Cotter. Pat was the driving force behind his beloved club
Mungret Regional as when one ever arrived at the venue one of the first people you would meet was Pat and you were always greeted with a smile.
Pat was also the current Treasurer of the LDL and a wonderful Gentleman to deal with.”
Mungret Regional have also added a tribute video to Pat which can be viewed on the club’s official Facebook page. Just over a month ago, the dedicated clubman watched his side lift the 1A league and cup and return to the premier division for one last time.
