Limerick set for All-Ireland final rematch in Munster opener at Pairc Ui Chaoimh as provisional fixtures for 2022 provincial Championship revealed

The 2022 Munster Championship is set to return to a round robin group format after a two year hiatus.

Limerick will travel to Pairc Ui Chaoimh in a repeat of the All-Ireland in the first round of the 2022 Munster Championship should the provisional format get the go ahead.

The competition is set to follow the format that was originally fixed to be used in the 2020 championship prior to the Covid 19 outbreak that has seen the past two championship operate under a knockout format.

Under the proposed format, Limerick be away to the Rebels before hosting Waterford in the second round. Round three will see Limerick head to Ennis before rounding out their campaign with Tipperary in the TUS Gaelic Grounds as the Shannonsiders face a bye in the final round of games.

The round robin format that was first introduced in 2018 was a resounding success and saw Limerick go on to capture All-Ireland honours in its maiden year before capturing the provincial title the following year.

Limerick have won four of their eight round robin games thus far, beating Waterford twice while trading victories with Tipp and Clare. They are yet to defeat Cork in the round robin format, drawing in their previous trip to Cork to face the rebels before losing in the 2019 opener.

Limerick won both knockout championships in 2020 and 2021, going on to collect All-Ireland titles in successive seasons.

After completing a three-in-a-row for the first time in 85 years, Limerick will be looking to emulate that side who completed a four in a row.
