This Sunday the finalists for the 2018 Limerick Senior Hurling Championship will be confirmed with a Semi-Final double header down for decision in the Gaelic Grounds. At 2pm Patrickswell face Doon which is followed by a repeat of last years county final between Na Piarsaigh and Kilmallock at 3.45pm. The two games will be streamed exclusively on the Sporting Limerick website and YouTube channel.
Doon v Patrickswell
Sunday October 14 in Gaelic Grounds @2pm
Doon come into their semi-final off the back of an impressive victory over Kilmallock in round 5 which guaranteed their progress straight through to the last 4. Doon are looking to reach their first county final since 2000, with a number of semi final losses suffered over the past number of years including defeat to last years eventual champions Na Piarsaigh at the penultimate hurdle. Doon will enter the game as favourites after defeating their opponents Patrickswell 1-20 to 1-17 in round two of the competition and suffering just a solitary defeat thus far at the hands of Na Piarsaigh in the opening round. For Patrickswell, the loss to Doon was one of three defeats suffered in the group stages which has dented their expectations severely in the competition. However, last Sunday’s win over South Liberties saw signs of the 2016 county champions rediscovering some of the form that saw them lift the Daly cup two years ago. With three potential All Stars in their line-up, Patrickswell cannot be counted out of any game, however Doon’s superior form this year should be enough to see them reach a maiden county final this decade.
Na Piarsaigh v Kilmallock
Sunday October 14 in Gaelic Grounds @2pm
The second semi final offers up a mouth-watering clash between last years finalists. There was nothing to separate the sides when they met in round three of the group stages with a 2-15 to 0-21 draw served up in the Gaelic Grounds a fortnight removed from the All-Ireland final. In the meantime, Na Piarsaigh collected a brace of wins over Patrickswell and Adare to top the group and advance into the final four. The draw with Kilmallock was the Caherdavin’s side only setback this year as they look ominously poised to retain their title for the first time ever. Kilmallock on the other hand were beaten in round 5 and thus had to face Murroe Boher in the quarter final stage. Against last years Premier Intermediate champions, they demonstrated their undoubted class with a 4-27 to 0-13 victory over Murroe. This victory will give them confidence heading into the semi-final but expect Na Piarsaigh to reach a sixth county final in the last eight years.
