Aisling Annacotty and Regional United were given tough draws in the quarter final of the FAI Junior Cup. The draw was made at 4.30 in the Aviva Stadium with managers and captains present at the event to find out their fate.
Regional will host four time winners Sheriff YC who won the competition four times in six years between 2012-2017. Last season was the first season that the Dublin outfit failed to reach the final in four years. Both sides home venues hold lengthy astroturf pitches and therefore a quality game will be expected in Dooradoyle. Aisling Annacotty will have to wait an extra week to find out their exact opponents as Peake Villa and Westport meet this Saturday in the last 16 of the competition. Mike Aherne’s side will be away in either Tipperary or Mayo. Aherne was joined by captain Brian Butler and chairman Jim Canny at the draw.
Westport will be known to Carew Park as the Mayo outfit defeated the Limerick side in the semi-final in 2004. The game was shrouded in controversy as Carew had initially beaten Wesport on penalties but Denis Whelan was suspended on the day. An error was made and the game was replayed in Limerick much to Westport’s benefit. Westport went on to win the final 2-0 against Waterford Crystal. It was the last time they won the competition. Annacotty on the other hand have only reached their second quarter final and are aiming to reach their first semi-final.
The ties will be played on or on the weekend of the 10th of March. The full draw is below.
