Limerick’s Best Hurling Game of the 21st Century: Quarter Final #4

Earlier this week we asked the Limerick public to tell us what their favourite Limerick games of the past 20 years were.

From the list of games we were told we compiled a list of the Top 16 which will battle it out to be crowned the counties favourite game this century.

Our Top 16 Bracket was released yesterday and can be seen here.

Our fourth quarter-final pairing is live now and can be voted on on our Twitter and Instagram pages!

The first game is Limerick’s 2019 Munster Final win over Tipperary which is pitted against the 2007 All-Ireland Semi-Final victory against Waterford

The 2019 victory was Limerick’s second Munster Championship Final win at the Gaelic Grounds that decade as they put Tipperary to the sword.

After being beaten by the Premier County in the final round robin game in Munster in Semple Stadium, Limerick lit up the Gaelic Grounds winning out by 12-points in the end.

Peter Casey and Kyle Hayes would get the goals as Limerick advanced straight to the semi-finals of the All-Ireland.

As things would pan out, it would be Tipperary lifting Liam MacCarthy in August but few will forget that final in the Ennis Road venue in June that saw Limerick hold the All-Ireland, National League and Munster titles at the same time..

The 2007 All-Ireland Semi-Final win was memorable for so many reasons as Limerick avenged the Munster final defeat to the Déise a couple of months previously to reach a first All-Ireland final since 1996.

Limerick had an electric opening to the game and held a 2-4 to 0-2 lead inside the opening quarter of an hour with Brian Begley and Andrew O’Shaughnessy getting on the scoresheet.

However, Waterford had the deficit reduced to a point in the second half before two more Limerick goals sealed the win with O’Shaughnessy and Donie Ryan getting their second of the day.
