Limerick’s Cian Lynch crowned PwC/GPA Hurler of the Month – Finals Winner

The award also adds to the July Hurler of the Month award he picked up following a pair of sensational Croke Park performances.

Limerick’s 2023 All-Ireland winning captain Cian Lynch has been named the PwC/GPA Hurling Player of the Month for August this afternoon.

The Patrickswell man is rewarded for his performance in last month’s final where he guided Limerick to a fourth successive Liam MacCarthy title.

Lynch beat out teammates Diarmaid Byrnes and Kyle Hayes to the award.

The award also adds to the July Hurler of the Month award he picked up following a pair of sensational Croke Park performances.

Prior to that, the two-time Hurler of the Year had struggled with injury, missing the Munster final in its entirety.

But he was back in tow for the All-Ireland semi-final four weeks later where he captained the side in Declan Hannon’s absence. Lynch was a towering presence against the tide as the Shannonsiders eventually got to grips with Galway before powering clear down the stretch.

A similar trend followed against the Cats a fortnight later as Lynch became the first man from his club to captain Limerick to the All-Ireland.
