Limerick’s Paddy Donovan faces Quinton Randall rematch in USA later this evening.

Limerick welterweight Paddy Donovan will be aiming for a double over AIBA World No.8 ranked Quinton Randall in the third and final meeting of the USA versus Ireland Elite series in Manchester, New Hampshire tomorrow night.

Donovan, the 2015 AIBA World Junior finalist who boxes out of the Our Lady of Lourdes BC on Shannonside, sensationally beat the Pan American finalist on his Elite international debut in the 2nd leg in Springfield last Thursday.

The Treaty City southpaw posted a convincing unanimous decision over the Texas-native – who was beaten by Cuba’s current Olympic champion, Arlen Lopez, in the 2017 Pan American final in Honduras – in Springfield.

The Americans, under former Irish head coach Billy Walsh, hold a 2-0 lead – and a 15-7 aggregate advantage – following 8-4 and 7-3 wins in Boston and Springfield going in Wednesday’s nine-bout meeting.

However, the first five bouts in Springfield went to Americans on 2-1 split decisions. Overall, Ireland, under head coach Zaur Antia, have been on the wrong end of seven 2-1 split verdicts.

World Elite finalist Kellie Harrington and Aoife Burke get proceedings underway versus Stacia Suttles and Leah Cooper in the light and middle classes tomorrow evening.

“The team have settled in well and they’re looking forward to competing once again against the USA,” said High-Performance Director Bernard Dunne, the Irish team manager in America.

Ireland are due to arrive home on Friday morning.
