Listen – 2017 Football year in review with Matt O’Callaghan.
Limerick faced their toughest two league games in round 1 and two. A narrow three point opening defeat to Wexford was followed up with a disappointing home defeat at the hands of Westmeath. Indeed Limerick’s conquerers in the opening two rounds would ultimately go on to earn promotion to division 3.
Carlow edged Limerick in another tight affair in round 3. However Billy Lee’s side would rally to win the remaining four league games on the bounce to claim 4th spot in the division on 8 points.

Wexford were Limerick’s bogey team this year
The finish to the league campaign gave Limerick genuine momentum heading into the Munster championship tie with Clare it wasn’t to be as they once more came out the wrong side of a 1-13 to 1-12 defeat.
Their luck didn’t improve much in the qualifiers as their league conquerers Wexford would ultimately end Limerick’s interest in the 2017 competition. Despite having chances to pull off the victory, the model county would progress to the next round of the qualifiers with a 0-12 to 0-11 win.
