The Limerick Footballers begin their Division 4 campaign this Sunday in Ruislip as they face the London Footballers.
It is Billy Lee’s third year in charge of Limerick and once again the main objective will be to escape from Division 4 of the League.
In each of the previous three years, Limerick have opened their league campaign with a loss and another on Sunday will be a serious setback to Lee and co.
The trip to London is unique in its nature and earlier this week, former county man Pa Ranahan spoke about the importance of these trips in helping the team to bond as a group, something which Lee echoes.
“That brings a deeper bond with one another. Getting to know each other, how they tick beyond the training ground and personalities.”
Lee has a very young panel at his disposal with a number of last years panel unavailable for varying reasons.
Yet there has been some signs of progress in recent years in the Academy and Lee is hopeful that his continue can take the right steps forward in their progression.
He acknowledges the difficulty of rebuilding a team but is more than ready for that challenge which will kick into gear this Sunday at 2pm in Ruislip.
“The trick for us now as a growing team is to put all the pieces together and do it on the one day. And when you do it on the one day you push it on to the second and third day and so forth.”
“That’s the challenge of rebuilding a team and trying to give them belief and confidence. That’s what its about. Not easy work but its joyful work when you can see the results.”
