Former Limerick goalkeeper Jimmy Fyffe spoke to Sporting Limerick’s Adrian Finnin recently and looked back at his career with his hometown club.
Fyffe was part of Limerick’s League Cup winning side back in 2002 and has fond memories of his time between the posts with the club. He also had spells with Bray Wanderers and Waterford United but his career highlight was that cup win in 2002.
“Nobody expected us to do anything. We got all Premier Division sides throughout and maybe our advantage was they underestimated us.
“The Galway quarter final was tough and it went to extra time with Derek Whyte getting the winner. We played Cork in Turners Cross. Cork felt like they could just turn up and beat us.
“Derek McCarthy scored and I didn’t have much to do in that game. Against Shamrock Rovers the team were superb and I had very little to do. That was one of the easiest games I had in the whole cup run.”
