LISTEN: John Ryan “It was all about getting over the line.”

The Limerick Senior Ladies Footballers are through to the Lidl National League Division 4 Semi-finals after a 2-5 to 0-5 win over Fermanagh in Askeaton last Sunday.

Goals from Limerick captain Cathy Mee and Corner Forward Catriona Davis being the decisive factor in their victory which now sees them in a semi final against Louth.

Speaking to Sporting Limerick after his side’s win was Manager John Ryan.

“It was all about getting over the line. We had a very very good first half, we really took the game to Fermanagh, they couldn’t handle us at all in the first half.

“We probably invited them on to us in the second half, but look it’s a win, we’re in a league semi-final, it was a fantastic win.”

The semi final clash with Louth will take place on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of April and having only taken over the team earlier in the year, Ryan feels that his side have made real progress getting to the knockout stages.

“It’s another crack at Louth now and see how we get on. When we met at the beginning of the year our target was to get into a national league semi-final. We’re there now, anything else is a bonus. I think the team are good enough to drive on in this, but look it’s going to be a massive game for us, in a neutral venue. We’re looking forward to it.”

Limerick suffered a 2-06 to 0-7 points defeat to Louth a few weeks ago up in Balbriggan but felt his side didn’t perform to their capabilities on the day. The Pallasgreen man and his backroom staff will be working on their video analysis as well as on field training in a bid to put things right next time out.

“We’ll have to look at the Louth DVD of that game, we’ll have to sit down and break it down, see where we went wrong. The girls bounced back against Derry, they bounced back against Fermanagh.

“We know what Louth are like, they are a very very sticky team, they close you down and give you little time on the ball. Their work rate is huge and they are very well set up with a very good management team.

‘I’m delighted for the players, I’m delighted for the management so hopefully we can drive on in the semi-finals’.
