Limerick FC captain Shaun Kelly admitted that the mid-season break may be a positive thing for the Limerick FC players as it was vital in re-energising and re-focusing the minds ahead of a huge month for the young squad.
Limerick face the first of four games against promotion rivals on Friday night when they entertain table toppers Shelbourne at the Markets Field on Friday evening (7.45 pm). The big talking point ahead of the game was the departure of striker Connor Ellis and Kelly agrees that it is a massive blow for the team.
“Obviously I have kept in touch with Connor and it was unfortunate to hear. He has given his reasons for it and it is a huge blow to us because he has been in great form and leads the line well. I’ve seen Tommy mention that we could play him in a few different positions so we are definitely going to miss him.”
Shaun also talks about the upcoming game against Shelbourne and how mentally draining it has been with the recent negative publicity surrounding the club. However, the Killybegs native has belief that the squad can challenge for a play-off spot right until the end.
