LISTEN: Kelly eagerly awaiting Airtricity League kick-off

Limerick FC captain Shaun Kelly spoke to Sporting Limerick to preview the beginning of the Airtricity League First Division season tomorrow night against Longford Town at the Markets Field (7.45)

The long serving player was appointed club captain by manager Tommy Barrett and is delighted with the responsibility.

“No matter when you get appointed a captain of a team it’s a great honour especially when you are at a club as long as I’ve been.

“Since 2011 I have been welcomed down here in Limerick and it’s my home away from home now.

“It’s an honour to be named captain especially with such a young group now. I’m looking forward to helping them as much on the pitch as off the pitch.

“It’s not about individuals anyway. As a group there are the likes of Robbie Williams and Shane Tracy there as well. It’s great for Tommy to ask me and I jumped at the chance.”

Kelly is delighted with the news that Limerick FC have secured new sponsorship through Daly’s Car Sales for the new season and feels it is very important that local people are getting involved in backing the club.

“It’s great to see and especially that it is somebody local. I think they have supported the club before as well.

“It’s good for the club and we can look forward now. I think for us it’s mainly about concentrating on the pitch because we have heard about all of these things off the pitch.

“Knowing that we have them behind us now, it’s great for us as players just to concentrate on the start of the season.”

Shaun also speaks about the squads ambitions for the season as well as the game against Longford Town. To listen to the full interview, click on the link below.
