LISTEN: “We are just looking to improve day on day” -William O’Donoghue

Na Piarsaigh booked their place in the Semi-Finals of the Limerick SHC yesterday with an impressive 1-21 to 1-11 victory over the 2016 county champions Patrickswell in the Gaelic Grounds. In truth the game was never in question as an early Peter Casey goal settled the reigning champions.

Na Piarsaigh topped Group 1 with nine points after dropping a solitary point in the group after their recent draw with Kilmallock. Speaking after the game, Na Piarsaigh captain William O’Donoghue says he is delighted to have secured a place in the last four but realises the hard work now starts for his team.

“It’s weird really. You’d nearly forget about the first two rounds in April after the whole Limerick campaign. But I mean its coming thick and heavy so it’s going to be whoever can find form. Whoever can bring their A game in the next few weeks is going to go a long way because if you’re struggling to find form at this time of year you don’t have much time to find that form.”

Na Piarsaigh are looking to win their fifth Limerick SHC Championship since the turn of the decade but are yet to retain the Daly Cup, something they will be keen to rectify in the coming weeks. The Caherdavin side will face the winners of Patrickswell and South Liberties in the last four and O’Donoghue is taking nothing for granted ahead of the game.

“We are just looking to improve day on day. Hopefully we keep doing that, but you can’t take anything for granted. Whoever we meet in the last four are going to be ultra-competitive and if you’re not on form or taking your chances, you’re going to get punished and the year could be over before you know it.”
