LIT Celtics make it four wins on the trot as good form continues

LIT Celtics increased their winning streak to four in a row with a comprehensive win over Titans in Galway over the weekend. The Senior Limerick Men’s team were basket for basket with the tribesmen in the opening quarter and it was all tied at 19 each after six minutes of play.

The Limerick side continued to work hard on defense and with two good steals and scores from Tommy Walsh and Ciaran Woods. LIT then pulled away to take a six point lead midway through the second quarter.

Titans came back strong in the closing minutes but some good scores from Matt St Armour, Emmet Brown and John Galvin brought Celtics right back into the game as they closed out the quarter on a 45 – 37 half time lead.

The LIT Celtics team came out very strong in the third quarter and within three minutes they had increased their lead to 20 points. Some great performances from the entire squad continued for the third and fourth quarters.

Young LIT Celtics players Jordan Hehir and Cian O’Reilly picked off some super scores and combined well with the experienced Damien Enright and Krystian Burchardt to increase LIT Celtics lead to 26 points midway through the fourth quarter.

Some great defensive work from Enright, Walsh and some good rebounding from John Bridges kept the LIT lead well intact despite some good shooting from the Galway opposition. Meng Wong came into the game to join Jordan Hehir and Cian O’ Reilly in the final quarter and with good scores from Damien Enright, Jordan Hehir and Cian O’Reilly Celtics finished off the game in style to secure their fourth consecutive win on a the 90 – 70 scoreline.

Top Scorers were Matt St Armour 25, John Galvin 23 and Emmett Brown 15.

LIT Celtics last home game of the season is next Saturday night at 6pm in LIT Sportshub against Sligo All Stars in what should be another cracker of a game. Celtics under 12 girls play in the Cork Open Tournament on Saturday while the Under 14 Girls take on Glanmire in the Cork Under 14 Cup semi final on Saturday night in the Parochial Hall.

Our under 12 boys take on Limerick Lions on Friday night in the Cork Under 12 league in LIT sportshub at 6.15pm and this will be followed by our under 18 girls taking on Brunell in what should be another cracking game of basketball.

There will also be a full day of super games on this coming Sunday in Crescent Comp so if you want to see some great basketball just come to see any of the boys and /or girls games or watch the highly exciting men’s game on Saturday night in LIT Sportshub.
