Mark Fitzgerald names side for Tailteann cup clash

The Shannonsiders had an impressive start to their Tailteann Cup campaign, picking up wins over Longford and Carlow to guarantee top spot in Group 3.

The Limerick side to face Laois in the TUS Gaelic Grounds at 3pm this Saturday has been named, with Mark Fitzgerald making five changes to the side that slumped to defeat to Wicklow last time out.

Fitzgerald had rotated his side for the Wicklow defeat, but has opted to bring back in a number of players, including Jim Liston and Mike Donovan at corner-back. Donal O’Sullivan, Paul Maher and Cathal Downes all return to the starting line up.

James Naughton and Peter Nash continue at the corners, either side of Hugh Bourke and the trio will be key if Limerick are to regroup and advance to the Croke Park semi-final.

The Shannonsiders had an impressive start to their Tailteann Cup campaign, picking up wins over Longford and Carlow to guarantee top spot in Group 3. These wins would be followed up with a disappointing loss to Wicklow, who were guaranteed to finish last, although Fitzgerald’s side may have taken their foot off the gas, knowing they had a quarter-final confirmed.

The O’Moore county had to play a preliminary round to book their meeting with Limerick, following a third place finish in Group 1, and they dispatched of Fermanagh last time out to earn a trip to the Ennis Road. They head into the game as underdogs, priced at 2/1, while Limerick can be got at 1/2.
