Masters Day Two Round Up| World No.1 Scheffler storms into the lead after a 67 shot round

Day two delivered the spectacle we were all hoping for as Scottie Scheffler stormed through the course for the lead.

The second day of the Masters brough plenty of shocks for the fans to watch and provided some excellent golf throughout the day. The front runners after day one, Sungjae Im and Cameron Smith both slipped down the leader board after having poor second rounds.

Im finished the day on -2 after he shot two over par for his round. Smith saw a shocking start to his round but managed to stop the bleeding, he finished his round going two over par also with a total score of -2.

Scottie Scheffler came out with a brilliant effort on the second day. His consistency was the key to his success as he kept his scorecard ticking over through the eighteen holes. Plenty of top players had a very difficult day yesterday but Scheffler was able to find an extra bit of class where other players couldn’t. He finished the day at -8 and carried a five shot lead into the weekend action.

Rory McIlroy didn’t have the day he was looking for as the tough swirling conditions got the better of the former world No.1. Dropping three shots in two consecutive holes, it looked as if McIlroy was gonna fall into his slump and miss his chance to make the cut. McIlroy showed great resilience and toughed it out to score two consecutive birdies in the closing holes of the round to pull it back for a second 73 round for the tournament.

Still in contention for a good finish, McIlroy really needs a sub 72 round to be in with a shout for Sunday.

Shane Lowry was the pick of the Irish bunch as he shot a brilliant 68 round for the day where he finished on -3 overall. At the turn of the back nine Lowry was at -1 and went on to chip in for birdie at the tenth. Two more birdies on the back nine par fives further improved his score. Sitting at second in the table now Lowry is in a brilliant spot for weekend action.

Stuck Behind Scheffler, it will be difficult to get within touching distance of the leader for Lowry over the next two days.

Seamus Power found a way to just sneak himself into the weekend action as his total score of minus +4 for the tournament was just enough to make the cut. The Waterford native started his round at +2 but some sloppy play found its way into his game.

It Looked as if Power was going to be swallowed by the competition however, Power’s first two birdies of the tournament came at the 13th and 16th holes two claw back to the projected cut of +4. It will be exciting to see what the Munster man does with his remaining two days in the tournament.

To round off the Irish contingent, Padraig Harrington sadly missed the cut for the weekend and wont be competing in the final two days. A +3 day for the two time Open winner saw him finish five over par in the two rounds he played. Plagued by ill timed bogey’s, Harrington wasn’t able to recover. The 50 year old Irish legend gave us fans some great golf over the two days but it just wasn’t enough.
